Our program approaches the challenge of ensuring our suppliers comply with our code of conduct on several fronts. As we learn from our experiences, our program evolves, and becomes more fine-tuned. Because no single intervention will work in every circumstance, we keep a range of approaches at our disposal. The main approaches we employ are:
• Factory Assessments: Regularly auditing factories in high-risk areas, supported by independent monitoring by the Fair Labor Association (FLA)
• Education: Providing guidance and training to business partners on compliance
• Remediation: Engaging with factory management to develop plans for improvement and resolve compliance issues
• Business Integration: Working with Reebok’s supply chain team to ensure their procedures support our human rights goals |
|
• Collaborations: Partnering with workers, worker representatives, NGOs, other brands and academics to help us understand local labor conditions and explore solutions to improve human rights
• Independent Assessment: Participating in and reporting annually to the Fair Labor Association (FLA)
• Prevention: Helping workers and management resolve issues better between themselves, an approach that is showing promising results
• Advocacy: Working with stakeholders to strengthen implementation and enforcement of labor laws in key areas where we have business presence
OUR PROGRAM
In the early 1990s, auditing factories for compliance was the main focus of our work. Today, factory audits still remain essential to our efforts but our program increasingly reaches beyond the limitations of inspecting factories. Our approach is to identify where Reebok can make the most difference, then to intervene in a way that promotes long-lasting improvement. |
