By working with NGOs and business peers Reebok can increase its reach and influence in countrywide issues. In 2005, the Fair Labor Association (FLA) launched the Central America Project (CAMP) to counter discrimination in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.
The FLA is working with companies and the International Labor Organization (ILO) to produce draft guidelines of good practice to guide employers on policies and procedures. Consultation is taking place with local governmental ministry of labor officials, export processing zone authorities, employer associations, worker associations and factories. The feedback is currently being incorporated into the guidelines.
The FLA hosted capacity-building sessions in the fall of 2005 in each of the three regions but it is too soon to assess the results of this initiative. For more information on CAMP, visit fairlabor.org.
In partnership with Nike and adidas, Reebok launched a program to build a framework for implementing Human Resources Management Systems (HRSM) for Asian suppliers. The project will begin to deliver training in early 2006 to the first group of factories, all located in China. |
