Winter Workout Hacks: Hidden CrossFit Movements In Daily Life

Winter is no longer coming. It’s here, and here in full force for that matter.

As quickly as the snow falls, your to-do list lengthens. There’s shoveling out your snow-covered car, walking the dog (briskly!) in frigid temps, pushing the snow blower up and down the driveway and even lifting heavy logs into the fireplace for a roaring hearth.

Many of the actions we perform in our everyday winter routines are in fact rooted in fundamental CrossFit movements.

“CrossFit incorporates functional movements that are found everywhere outside the gym—on the job, at home with your kids, even in the front yard,” says James Hobart, a Reebok trainer and three-time CrossFit Games Affiliate Cup Champion.

“Pushing, pulling, squatting—they’re not only gym movements, they’re life movements.”

“My mom, who is in her 50’s, has been doing CrossFit for four years now,” continues Hobart. “She constantly tells me how all of her daily activities – whether it’s picking up dog food, shoveling the driveway or moving groceries – don’t take a second thought anymore. She no longer has to ask anyone else for help, because the work she’s put in at the gym translates.”

Just take a look for yourself below at how these CrossFit movements are turning your winter into a workout.
